Prince William 'angered' by Meghan's lavish celeb-filled baby shower

Royal fans everywhere were talking about Meghan Markle’s lavish baby shower last week.

From the New York penthouse location to the beautiful flowers, the harpist and the impressive A-list guest list – no expense was spared in celebrating the Duchess’ pregnancy.

However, it seems not everyone was thrilled with the photos emerging from the event, with Prince William said to be fuming over the opulent affair, which cost about $660,000, according to the Daily Mail.

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, has claimed Prince William wouldn’t be a fan of the show of wealth.

“I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan’s lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so ‘celebrity’ rather than ‘royal’,” Paul wrote in a column for The Sun.

“He has spent years working with the press to give them what they want but also gets what he wants in return – privacy.

“Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn’t – courting attention all for her and her baby.”

The 37-year-old pregnant former Suits star was pictured coming in and out of The Mark hotel in New York, where the party was held last week.

Gayle King, who is Oprah Winfrey’s best friend, was at The Mark Hotel on Wednesday to celebrate the impending arrival of baby Sussex, with stars such as Serena Williams, Amal Clooney and Meghan’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney.

Speaking on CBS This Morning, Gayle said she’d ‘never seen anything like’ the baby shower.

“They did flower decorations, they had flower arranging, they brought in somebody to explain how to arrange flowers,” Gayle said.

She went on to reveal that Meghan had actually organised for the flowers that they had arranged at the party to be sent to Repeat Roses, which recycles flowers by delivering them to patients in hospitals, homeless shelters and cancer treatment centres.

“I thought that was a very sweet thing, it just speaks to who she is, she’s very kind, she’s very generous and a really, really sweet person,” Gayle said.

“It was a very small, private affair and just a very special time for her.”

Meghan has since faced backlash after she flew on a $60 million jet from New York back to London.

The 37-year-old former actress boarded her pal Amal Clooney’s private plane, according to the Daily Mail, and flew into Farnborough Airport in Hampshire.

However, Friends of the Earth, a group working towards a sustainable and environmentally-future, are not pleased with the Duchess.

“Private air travel obviously comes with a huge carbon footprint. Perhaps for future trips the Duchess could consider less carbon intensive modes of travel. We invite her to set a good climate trend by flying less,” a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
