All the best moments from day five of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal tour

Day five of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal tour also marks the beginning of the Invictus Games in Sydney.

The pair arrived at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday evening for the opening ceremony.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first attended a reception for the games at Bennelong Restaurant.

The couple were accompanied by NSW Premier and Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Later on, Harry and Meghan attended the official opening ceremony, which was slightly delayed due to a lightning and thunder storm.

The Prince is set to give a speech, which he practiced in front of his wife at the Opera House earlier today.

Harry and Meghan attend first Invictus Games event

On Saturday afternoon, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their way to Cockatoo Island where the first event of the games was held.

The couple kept it casual and comfortable for the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge event.

Harry wore some grey trousers with an Invictus Games polo shirt and Meghan also wore a games polo shirt with black jeans from Mother Denim and a white blazer from Altuzzara.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at ANZAC Memorial

Earlier in the morning, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by hundreds of spectators in Sydney’s Hyde Park.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were there to attend the opening of an extension of the ANZAC war memorial.

Accompanied by the Governor of New South Wales, David Hurley, the royal couple’s appearance at the new $40 million enhanced memorial was a surprise to members of the public.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Premier of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, were also in attendance.

Harry was dressed in full military uniform, while Meghan stunned in a black dress by New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead, paired with a headpiece by British designer Philip Treacy.

Her choice of designer for her dress was perhaps a subtle acknowledgement of the military coalition between Australia and New Zealand.

Harry and Meghan laid a wreath at the memorial in remembrance of the men and women who served and sacrificed their lives.

A minute’s silence was also held to honour those who have fallen.

The opening of the new extension of the ANZAC Memorial marks the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Bondi Beach

Thousands of people lined the sand at Bondi Beach on day four of the Duke and Duchess’ royal tour, some waited since 6am morning for the chance to shake hands with the royal couple.

While it was a slightly gloomy morning, it didn’t stop them getting comfortable and taking their shoes off on the sand as they met with a local surfing community group raising awareness for mental health and wellbeing, known as OneWave.

The Duke and Duchess took part in the ‘Fluro Friday’ session, where people share their experiences with mental health issues, and have the opportunity to interact with others while enjoying yoga and surfing.

Participants were dressed up for ‘Fluro Friday’, and even helped the Duke and Duchess get into the spirit by giving them leis to wear.

Their day also consisted of a visit to Macarthur Girls High School in Western Sydney, followed by Harry climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge to raise the flag for the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Melbourne

In Melbourne on Thursday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle greeted thousands of royal fans at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Harry reduced one girl to tears as he broke royal protocol giving her a hug.

19-year-old student India Brown was in the crowds to greet Harry and Meghan at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

When she asked if she could have a hug, Harry accepted her offer whilst also slightly teasing her.

“He just said ‘you are going to get me into trouble’,” she recalled to reporters later on.

The pair also made a visit to a South Melbourne primary school and visited South Melbourne beach.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Dubbo visit

Earlier in the day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met five-year-old schoolboy Luke Vincent, who was overjoyed to come face-to-face with the royal couple.

He’d been waiting for the royal couple for hours, and in a heartwarming moment, the kindergartener dove straight in for a cuddle with Harry as the royal bent down to greet him.

The young boy, who has Down syndrome, was fascinated by the Duke of Sussex’s scruffy beard, and he reached in to touch it before presenting a pregnant Meghan with a some flowers and a hug.

According to Luke’s mum, he “loves” beards.

“Luke’s favourite person is Santa Claus, isn’t it?” she told 7News, to which Luke replied, “Yeah, Santa Claus.”

Mrs. Vincent admitted she was slightly concerned after Luke “jumped up” on Harry, as she was told there was a “no touching” rule around the royals.

“I was very concerned once he started rubbing Prince Harry’s face and his hair, but Prince Harry was completely gracious,” she said. “And was so polite and realised what was happening and his infatuation with his beard.

“We can only thank him so much for treating Luke with such respect.”

Meghan Markle is pregnant

Just hours after they arrived in Australia on Monday, the royal pair announced they were expecting their first child together.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the palace said in statement on Twitter.

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
