Prince George's Nickname Is Actually So Unexpected

It started on the playground and made its way to Kensington Palace.

The royal family may seem like a beacon of propriety, but even the Prince and Princess of Wales have nicknames for their children. According to The Mirror, their eldest son Prince George (second in line to the throne, no big deal) was given a nickname on the playground during his time at school that managed to make its way to his family, who continue to use it in the hallowed halls of Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall.

During his time at Thomas's School, George was given the moniker P.G. by his classmates for obvious reasons, but eventually, that morphed into a very British nickname: P.G. Tips, a very popular brand of tea across the pond. Often it gets shortened to just "Tips" when he's with close friends and family, adding just one more layer of relatability to the royals.

"He's very popular and has a lot of friends, and there's very little fuss made about who he is," an insider told Vanity Fair, per the Mirror.

George's siblings also have nicknames of their own. Their mom, Kate Middleton, calls her youngest son, Prince Louis, "Lou Bugs," while Charlotte sometimes gets called "Poppet" or "Lottie." As for grandpa, even King Charles can't escape a casual nickname: Princess Anne calls him Old Bean.

During an appearance on The Sun's Royal Show, biographer Ingrid Seward, shared that Kate and Prince William also use nicknames for one another. Kate has sometimes referred to her husband as "Big Willie" and, in turn, Will was known to call his wife "Babykins" early on in their relationship.
