Prince Archie’s Godfather Reportedly Snubbed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from His Wedding Guest List
But Kate Middleton, Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla are all said to have made the cut.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be working on mending their relationship with King Charles, but apparently, that “warmth” has yet to extend to the rest of the royal family’s inner circle. Case in point? According to sources for People, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly won’t be heading to the U.K. this summer to celebrate the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, and Olivia Henson, despite Harry’s longtime friendship with the duke.
Although a spokesperson for Grosvenor told the publication that they were “not in a position to comment on the guest list,” for the June nuptials, it’s been reported that Kate Middleton, Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla will all be in attendance during the ceremony. Grosvenor’s decision to exclude Harry and Meghan from the guest list was allegedly made to “avoid a family clash amid the rift between the royal brothers,” per People.
In addition to being a longtime friend of both Harry and William, Grosvenor is also the godson of Charles and one of Prince Archie’s godparents, according to The Sunday Times.

“It’s incredibly sad it has come to this,” a source close to the situation told the publication. “Hugh is one of very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both. He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realizes it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.”
The source continued, “He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia and doesn’t want any awkwardness.”
News of the wedding snub comes just a week after the release of royal author Omid Scobie’s book, Endgame, pulled royal family drama into the spotlight yet again, including shedding light on the fact that William didn’t like Markle’s relationship with his brother “from the start.”
“William had been wanting to distance himself from his brother ever since Harry’s marriage to Meghan — whom the then Duke of Cambridge took a disliking to from the start,” Scobie wrote, adding that William thought Harry was “was swept up in her glamour and American joie de vivre to the point that he was refusing to acknowledge the rules and risks of managing a relationship within the institutional apparatus.”
