What's in the October/November issue of Prevention?

Right now, something is happening, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

For me, it all started two years ago, when Prevention published a story (‘Fifty Shades of 50’) that got one of the biggest reactions of anything we’d done to date. In a nutshell? It shone a spotlight on the new breed of 40+ women set to shake up the way we think about getting older. Forget the midlife crisis, this savvy, switched-on group is having one massive midlife opportunity and in the process creating a seismic shift that will change the way we think about 40, 50, 60 (and beyond) forever.

They’re doing things in big and small ways just for themselves—think scaling mountains, learning to surf, travelling the world solo, raising kids, starting their own businesses and, in short, feeling healthier, wealthier, wiser and more content than ever before. But no matter what they’re choosing to do, they have one thing in common: they’re embracing their passions and proving that life really does get better with age. And, if you ask me, that’s a truly spectacular thing.

This groundbreaking group is a generation that Prevention’s CEO Maria Rodale once described as the most influential group of women in the history of ever and, as someone who’s just turned 42, that’s a phrase that’s stayed with me ever since. They’re flipping the old stereotypes on their head and reinventing the concept of what midlife means, in the best possible way. That’s why we’ve created Prevention’s first dedicated Positive Ageing Issue designed to help you feel stronger, live longer and squeeze every last drop out of life. Looking for smart food, fitness and health advice? Then you’re guaranteed to find it here.

Lastly, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Melissa Doyle, one of Australia’s most-loved and well-respected journalists, on the cover of this very special issue. As she told our senior features writer Kate Walsh: “[At 45] I have more opinions, more experience and I feel stronger. So what if I have lines when I smile? If people judge me on that, then that’s their problem. I’m braver in so many areas.” And really, isn’t that what the spirit of positive ageing is all about?

I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we did creating it. In the meantime, be sure to get in touch via editor@preventionmagazine .com.au or Twitter and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear from you.
