Princess Madeline of Sweden has revealed she was having contractions during her brother’s royal wedding—just two days before she eventually gave birth.

The 37-year-old made the admission during an interview with magazine Mama, and detailed the behind the scenes of Prince Carl Philip’s nuptials to Princess Sofia.

In the chat, Madeleine explained how she was 3cm dilated during the 2015 celebrations and had to endure contractions throughout.

Princess’ royal role

But despite this discomfort, the royal still frocked up in a floor-length gown and tiara and hoped her waters wouldn’t break while the ceremony took place.

Luckily for Madeleine, her sister Crown Princess Victoria looked after little Princess Leonore, while her brother-in-law Prince Daniel distracted her during the reception.

Just two days later, the princess and banker husband Christopher O’Neill’s second child and first son, Prince Nicolas, was born on June 15, 2015.

Since his arrival, the pair have welcomed another bub, Princess Adrienne in 2018, and moved from their European base to Florida for Christopher’s work.

Leaving Sweden

While the change was a shock for some of the royal’s subjects, it was explained in an official statement as one done with their children in mind.

“The time and opportunity for the United States is good for the family when the children are still in pre-school age,” the release read.

“Princess Madeleine has a great commitment to children’s rights and will continue working with the World Childhood Foundation and, through the move, be able to focus more on the activities in the United States.”

As Madeleine is the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia she in unlikely to ever reign and is seventh in line to the throne, behind her siblings and their children.
