Power Book II: Who Won’t Survive Ghost’s Finale? We Lay Out Your Favorite Characters’ Odds

Power faithful, the date is nearly upon us: The Book II: Ghost finale comes at the end of this week.

After four seasons, the ballad of Tariq St. Patrick will draw to a close, likely with a lot of bullets and blood flying around before the credits roll. One of the series’ biggest casualties, in fact, came in the penultimate episode: Struggling queenpin Monet Tejada, played by Mary J. Blige, met her end when she was gunned down by Noma’s crew while trying to rescue son Cane. (Read a full recap.)

The Starz spinoff will air its final episode Friday at 8/7c. Before then, we thought we’d survey the show’s remaining major players with an eye to their chances of surviving the finale. Keep in mind these are just our predictions — we haven’t seen the episode — and there’s always room for debate. That’s why, after you scroll down to see what we’ve laid out, you’ll hit the comments with all of your thoughts on who’ll make it through.

Brayden

WORKING AGAINST HIM: His kinda out-of-control cocaine habit; his impetuousness

IN HIS FAVOR: Don’t rich white guys always somehow wind up on top?

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: 50-50

Cane

WORKING AGAINST HIM: Noma’s entire organization is gunning for him.

IN HIS FAVOR: He’s proven himself to have not only brains, but heart — a character who’s come this far in the viewers’ eyes has to make it, right?

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: Good-ish

Det. Carter

WORKING AGAINST HIM: He’s corrupt, he’s even lying to his loyal fellow (crooked) cops, and he’s currently tied to a chair. Someone this bad can’t prevail, right?

IN HIS FAVOR: Not too damn much. He’s a villain! We’re pretty sure he’ll go down before the final credits roll.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: Poor

Davis

WORKING AGAINST HIM: He’s seemed a little superfluous this season.

IN HIS FAVOR: While no one can argue that the Davis Maclean of Season 4 is doing better than the Davis Maclean of Season 1… dude’s still a smooth talker who can make things happen. And, as we saw in Episode 9, he’s ruthless enough to kill if he has to.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: Pretty good

Diana

WORKING AGAINST HER: Losing the baby and killing Felicia have seriously unmoored Monet Tejada’s only daughter — and that was before Monet’s death. Seeking revenge could cause her to make rash decisions with terrible outcomes.

IN HER FAVOR: We can see some (or all) of the Tejada kids making it through and carrying on the family business in their parents’ stead.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: 50-50

Dru

WORKING AGAINST HIM: Of all three Tejada children, we’d miss him the least. (Sorry!)

IN HIS FAVOR: It certainly seems like Monet’s kids might band together to avenge her (see also: Diana), and having the three siblings alive and reunited for real could be a nice way to bring closure to the series.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: Pretty good

Effie

WORKING AGAINST HER: She’s got a bright future (robots!) and a broken heart. From a plot perspective, her death could pack a lot of dramatic punch (particularly for Cane).

IN HER FAVOR: Effie might be the smartest player on the board: If anyone is wise enough to know when to yeet herself outta there, it’s her.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: Not great, but we hold out hope

Noma

WORKING AGAINST HER: She’s one of the season’s big villains and one of Tariq’s two antagonists. Plus, now the Tejada kiddos are coming for her.

IN HER FAVOR: Literally nothing

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: A Different World‘s Marion Gilbert said it best: “Die, just die!”

Tariq

WORKING AGAINST HIM: Carter and Noma want him gone. Also: If this show truly has been about Tariq becoming his father 2.0… we all know how that ended for Ghost, right?

IN HIS FAVOR: That said, Tariq doesn’t have a son who’ll show up and unexpectedly murder him. So he’s got that going for him.

LIKELIHOOD OF SURVIVAL: While it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Tariq to bite it, we’d be surprised if St. Patrick didn’t come out of all of this on top.
