Potentially fatal flaw in popular appliance

A popular pizza maker has been urgently recalled over fears it could cause an electric shock, leading to serious injury or even death.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission issued a recall last week for the Morphy Richards electric pizza maker.

According to the notice, the counter top appliance has been fitted with an incorrect sealant near the heating element.

The sealant could cause the maker to short circuit, raising the risk of serious injury or death from an electric shock.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the product (and) return the product to their place of purchase for a refund,” the ACCC said.

The pizza maker was available nationally and online between February 3-April 8 at a range of retailers, including Harvey Norman.

It was also available at Domayne, Bi Rite, Betta Electrical, Joyce Mayne, Kappel, Leading Appliances, Retravision, and TVSN.

Supplier Glen Dimplex is responsible for a range of heating products, according to its website, including gas and electric.

Its products include room heaters, fireplaces, home appliances brands, and its Morphy Richards range of kitchen devices.
