This Popcorn Ball Old-Fashioned Is the Ultimate Fall Cocktail
Who doesn't love a sweet, buttery popcorn ball? It's a throwback to Halloweens of yesteryear, equal parts nostalgic and fantastic.
We decided to bring it back in a supremely sippable form for the grown-ups at your Halloween party by imbuing the flavors in a classic old-fashioned.
To make it, you infuse your favorite bourbon with decadent salted butter. It takes a little advance prep, but, once done, the infused bourbon will keep fine for months—and tastes pretty good sipped neat, too. 😉
Yields: 1 serving
Prep Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 5 hours 20 mins
Ingredients
For the Salted Butter-Washed Bourbon:
1/2 c.
(1 stick) salted butter
2 c.
bourbon
For the cocktail:
2 oz.
Salted Butter-Washed Bourbon
1 tsp.
store-bought caramel syrup
2
dashes Angostura bitters
Popcorn, for garnish
Directions
Make the Salted Butter-Washed Bourbon: Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in bourbon. Cover and let sit, 1 hour. Freeze until the fat is solidified, 4 to 6 hours. Remove frozen butter, then strain bourbon through a coffee filter to remove any remaining solids. Store bourbon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
Make the cocktail: Combine bourbon, syrup, bitters, and ice in a mixing glass. Stir until well-chilled, 25 to 30 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with popcorn skewered on a cocktail pick.
