A small aircraft that took off from Washington Dulles International airport has landed on a highway shortly after departure
A plane that took off from Washington Dulles International Airport on Friday afternoon has made an emergency landing on a Northern Virginia highway.
According to the flight tracking site FlightAware, the single propeller Cessna 208 was heading to Lancaster, Penn. but was only in the air for 2 minutes before diverting.
Local news outlet WUSA9 reports the small aircraft made a hard landing on Loudoun County Parkway with seven people on board.
Stan Little, CEO of Southern Airways, issued a statement that there were no injuries and "all passengers are safe and sound," according to WUSA9.
Emergency personnel from Loudoun County are on the scene.
A statement issued by Dulles Airport indicates that they received reports around 12:50pm of a "departed aircraft landing off airport property on a nearby roadway" and identified it as Southern Airways Express flight 246.
The Virginia Department of Transportation also confirmed the details on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, writing, "There is in fact a small plane in the roadway and blocking all lanes of Loudoun County Pkwy at Arcola Mills Dr."
As of the time of publishing, the aircraft is still sitting on the side of the highway, but some traffic has resumed. The region is currently experiencing snowy conditions and is under a winter storm warning until Friday night.
