‘The Pianist’ Star Reveals a Makeup Artist Once Tried to Remove His Nose

Despite his decades in Hollywood and two Academy Award nominations in the Best Actor category, Adrien Brody is not immune to awkward interactions with people who don’t know much about him.

As The Pianist star revealed during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he is occasionally mistaken for fellow actor Adam Brody—including one time recently by Kim Kardashian, who mixed up the actors’ names while applauding the performances in the Adam-starring TV series Nobody Wants This.

People who work behind the scenes on movie sets also aren’t necessarily as familiar with The Grand Budapest Hotel actor as one might think. While chatting with host Jimmy Fallon on the late night show’s Monday, Feb. 3, episode, Adrien revealed that a makeup artist once tried to remove his real nose from his face. The show later shared a clip of Adrien's conversation with Fallon on Instagram.

The incident occurred while Adrien was filming The Brutalist, the 2024 movie for which he received his second Best Actor Oscar nomination. Adrien’s character aged 30 years over the course of the film, which meant that some prosthetics and makeup were needed to visually display his character’s transformation over time.

“It’s a movie with a lot of moving pieces,” he explained. “I had a new team of people who I’d never met, and they were removing this apparatus all over me. And this woman was busily working away with a solvent on my nose—she’s just working away.”

Noticing the makeup artist’s focus on his nose, Adrien recalled asking, “Are you trying to remove that?” After she responded in the affirmative, he informed her that the nose she was dealing with was real, and thus was not going to “come off.”

The makeup artist was very apologetic, he said, but seemed to recognize a memorable moment when she experienced one. “She says, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,’” Adrien said. “And then she goes, ‘This is going in my diary.’”

Though both he and Fallon laughed, Adrien admitted that he too was recycling the story. “Now it’s going in my talk show repertoire,” he joked.
