Philadelphia Eagles Kicker Covering Pet Adoption Fees for Every Field Goal This Season
Throughout the country, shelters and rescues are dealing with the urgent and unfortunate reality of having more animals than they can care for. Due to the lack of suitable housing and increasing expenses, many families have been forced to give up their beloved pets, hoping they find safe and loving homes. Through no fault of their own, these innocent creatures are now eagerly waiting for their "Gotcha day."
That's why a professional athlete is doing his part to make adopting these animals easier. Watch the video from September 9 to find out why you might end up rooting for your team's opponent this season.
I love this idea! Hopefully, Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott (@jelliott46) will inspire a trend in the NFL this season with players and fans. Jake announced that he and his wife, Annie, will cover the adoption fee for a dog at Street Tails Animal Rescue for each field goal he makes. He revealed that this rescue started with a mission of saving "One dog at a time," and it is where they found their four-legged kids, Willy and Roxy. Jake has already scored twice, which means two adoption fees are covered! He's off to a great start!

Ways to Help Shelter Dogs Even If You Can't Adopt
Become a foster. Fostering is a great way to help dogs struggling in a noisy shelter environment have a warm and loving home until they find their forever family. It may even score you a tax deduction.
Take dogs out for a day. Many rescues and shelters have programs that allow screened volunteers to take dogs out for a pup cup or an overnight visit. Lifting their spirits can be just what they need to bring out their friendly nature and help them get adopted.
Volunteer. Nonprofit rescues are often run solely by bighearted animal lovers who don't collect a salary. Besides feeding, cleaning, and assisting with adoptions, volunteers can help these terrific dogs with training to ensure their success. Best of all, they can provide them with love and attention and receive it in return.
Donate. Even if you don't have the financial means, you can donate your time by sharing information about dogs and cats from shelters in your area on social media. This can help connect these animals with the right people. If you're a football fan, consider donating when your favorite player scores or your team wins and sharing it with your audience.
With the season just beginning, plenty of games are still ahead to help shelter dogs get adopted. It's another reason for animal-loving football fans to enjoy this time of year.
