Patrick Mahomes Compares Chiefs to 'Tangy BBQ' Doritos as He Reveals Brand's Top 3 'Crash the Super Bowl' Ads (Exclusive)
Patrick Mahomes can finally unveil the top-three fan submissions for Doritos' "Crash the Super Bowl" campaign.
"I don’t think I can pick a favorite," Mahomes, 29, exclusively tells Parade of the finalists, whose 30-second ads will appear in content that will air on broadcast during the playoffs and championship games, as well as on social media. "All three ads brought their own bold flavor and could easily fit within the legacy Doritos has made over the past 25 years. They really understood the assignment."

Parade: Let's start by talking about your partnership with Doritos—what made you decide to link up with them?
Patrick Mahomes: I’ve been eating Doritos my entire life, so it was a no-brainer to join forces with them for this iconic campaign. I know the brand always goes hard for the Super Bowl, so it's even more exciting to get to work with them during the biggest sports moment of the year.
You've long been a fan of Doritos. What is your favorite flavor and why?
Cool Ranch is my favorite—it’s a classic that never gets old. I also recently added Spicy Sweet Chili (a.k.a. the purple bag) to my late-night snack rotation for when I'm in the mood for something different.
Pick one to be best friends with, one to party with, one to be acquaintances with and one you're least likely to be friends with and explain why: Cool Ranch, Nacho Cheese, Spicy Sweet Chili, Salsa Verde.
Wow, this is a squad! OG Cool Ranch has to be my best friend—me and Cool Ranch go way back. I’m partying with Spicy Sweet Chili. I’d be acquaintances with Nacho Cheese, another classic staple flavor that is nice to have around every once in a while. I can’t say I wouldn’t be friends with Salsa Verde, so I think I’d have to party with that flavor too!
Talk about your experience watching the fan-made "Crash the Super Bowl" finalist commercials. What surprised you the most about the submissions? Were you expecting to have the reactions that you did—and what was it like having those reactions caught on camera?
It was so much fun ... The finalists really rose to the challenge and brought so much creativity and serious skills to the table. It didn’t even matter if the camera was there, my teammates and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at what they came up with.
If you had to pick one Doritos flavor to describe the Kansas City Chiefs, what would it be and why?
We’d have to be Doritos Tangy BBQ. It’s a classic chip flavor so many people know and love, but it’s special because it’s on a Doritos chip. Plus, everyone loves Kansas City BBQ.
What message do you have for aspiring content creators and commercial directors who may not have made the top three?
There was some tough competition looking to "Crash the Super Bowl" this year, so just keep doing what you’re doing! If you keep working hard and doing what you love, it’ll pay off.
Can you share any fun behind-the-scenes moments with your Chiefs teammates on set?
Low key, Creed [Humphrey] was hilarious on every scene…and I can confirm, many bags of Doritos were eaten on set.
