Paramount Lands Julien Magnat Spec ‘Familiar’ With Walter Hamada Producing

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has pre-emptively bought the original horror thriller script Familiar by Julien Magnat. Walter Hamada’s 18hz Productions will produce through its output deal at the studio. The plot line is being kept under wraps, but it surrounds a single mother who inadvertently invites an evil entity into her home.

This marks Magnat’s first spec sale. He previously wrote and directed the Milla Jovovich thriller Faces in the Crowd.

For Hamada, it was announced at CinemaCon earlier this year that he and Paramount are developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, a live-action film based on the fan graphic novel of the same name.

Paramount also greenlit Johannes Roberts’ film Primate, which Hamada will produce. Roberts co-wrote and will direct the pic, which will star Oscar winner Troy Kotsur.

Hamada’s other producing credits include The Conjuring franchise, It and The Batman.

Magnat is repped by Stephen Crawford at Industry Entertainment and attorney Peter Nichols.
