Outdoor Voices, the athletic brand whose color-blocked workout sets were once inescapable in city centers, is reportedly closing all of its 16 U.S. storefronts by the end of this week.

As reported by The New York Times, the company sent a Slack message to some employees, informing them that "Outdoor Voices is embarking on a new chapter as we transition to an exclusively online business."

The brand, which was founded by Ty Haney in 2013, grew popular for its minimal workout sets, clever social media strategy and community-focused activations. However, the aesthetically-pleasing exterior covered up tumult behind the scenes: The company's valuation plummeted in 2020, which triggered executive turnover and Haney's exit.

The store closings almost mirror Outdoor Voices rocky beginnings: Despite millions in investor funding and glowing press that likened the brand to Lululemon, store openings were repeatedly delayed and clothes were discounted, per the Times.

Outdoor Voices hasn't publicly commented on this shift. The company didn't immediately reply to Fashionista's request for comment — we'll update this story when we hear back.
