And the Oscar for Best Actor goes to...

This awards season has been a highly competitive race, with so many excellent films and performances. Oppenheimer certainly stood out this year, with the film nabbing 13 nominations in different categories, with Cillian Murphy up for Best Actor this year for his performance as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

The Academy caused a bit of a stir when it was revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio missed out on a nomination in the category, with the star also missing out on SAG and BAFTA nominations.

It came as little surprise that Cillian won Best Actor. It was his first Oscar win, and the star thanked the Academy and the Oppenheimer filmmakers.

Yahoo Lifestyle's predictions

Before watching the Oscars, here were our predictions for who would take out the top award:

Marni - When it comes to the Best Actor category, I feel like Cillian Murphy will take that out.

Lachlan - For Best Actor, I’m rooting for Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers!

Lyndsey - Common sense would say it's Cillian Murphy, but I like Jeffrey Wright, so I'm voting for him, even though I cannot vote as I'm not a member of the Academy and I haven't seen either film.
