One of 2024’s best movies didn’t get as much credit as it deserved, according to the co-hosts of The New Abnormal.

The Apprentice, a biopic focusing on the early days of President-elect Donald Trump’s rise as a New York City real estate developer, is a great look into the mind of the man that conquered American politics over the past eight years.

“Not only are the performances great, but what it shows you about Trump’s personality is a lot of things that are understated a lot,” The New Abnormal producer Jesse Cannon said. “I would literally go as far as to say it’s a masterwork.

“I think about it nearly every day and it’s been months.”

Then, a conversation with Steven Monacelli of the Texas Observer about his investigation into the identities behind four anonymous neo-Nazi accounts on X, the social media platform owned by Tesla CEO and newfound Trump ally Elon Musk.

Plus! Paola Ramos, the author of Defectors: The Rise of the Latino Far Right and What It Means For America, joins the program to discuss the Democratic Party’s post-election struggles and the challenges of reconnecting with disillusioned young voters and communities of color.

“To me it feels like a party that’s in the midst of this very deep existential identity crisis,” Ramos said. “It’s as if they’re still trying to hold onto this old guard while knowing that they have to change, but they’re trying to figure out who they are and going back to a version of them that is simply not the future.”
