Ok, this is what we’re smelling like in 2025, friends
You know how when you have too much choice you find it harder to make decisions? I feel like this sometimes with my role as Cosmo Beauty Director. I get to test and try so many glorious new products that sometimes I can’t pick what to add to my routine and then just stick to a few old favourites. Essentially that’s why, despite my burgeoning perfume shelf, I have a few that stay on rotation, namely Phlur Missing Person, Le Labo Thé Noir and
Glossier You. My wardrobe smells like a cacophony of all three as I layer my scents and respray all the time.
But, while I love having a signature scent, I do like the idea of mixing it up– don't they say variety is the spice of life? How fun to switch up your scent for a new season or a trip abroad– imagine unlocking a core holiday memory in the future with a quick spritz... So, I tapped up the experts at The Perfume Shop (who have all the access to new launches and trends way in advance, natch) to find out what’ll be popping in perfume in the coming year.
From juicy fruits to new school personalisation, here are the fragrance trends to look out for in 2025…
Fragrance trends to know for 2025
Berry, berry nice
“2025 is expected to continue to see the rise of berry notes in perfumes, as seen in launches such as cherry-infused YSL Black Opium Over Red and raspberry-focused Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Elixir,” says Karla Wolley, Head of Buying at The Perfume Shop. Fruity scents with berries, currants and the like can seem a lil’ juvenile, but with the addition of more mature notes, they can balance beautifully. Take Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Elixir for instance, yes the top notes (aka the immediate scent you pick up) includes raspberries, but the base includes leather and sandalwood for a musky grown up depth.

Let AI assist you
Yep, AI is appaz way more helpful than just helping you rewrite that email to sound more badass; “Technology is reshaping the perfume industry,” says Karla, “with innovations like AI-assisted sustainable creations taking centre stage.” We hate to say ‘I told you so' but we did write about robots coming for our fragrances way back in 2023, so hi, hello, trust our predictions, folks.
But how is it showing up in 2025? For the betterment of our environment, actually. “One example is Prada Paradoxe Virtual Flower, where AI replicates floral ingredients to reduce reliance on natural resources, marking a significant step forward for sustainability in perfume production,” says Karla.

Layer up
“Layering continues to be a significant trend,” predicts Karla. Music to our ears. Layering not only allows you to bespoke your own scent (hello again, personalisation) but it means we can really have fun with notes right from our shower routine to the final spritz before heading out. For 2025, we are working with a few light layers of scent over one heavy spray so it’s time to play with shower gels, body oils and creams as well as body and hair mists.

Keep it sweet
Oh you thought the sweet scent trend stopped at cherries and berries? Nah - for 2025 we are leaning all the way into gourmand, and Karla also noted vanilla as a big note to watch too. Again, we aren’t doing cloying or sickly sweet – grown, sweet and sexy can live in harmony. Like with a cake, vanilla is just one ingredient, so throw some other notes into the mix to a) personalise and b) create balance.
