Summer technically ends on September 22, but we've been in the cozy autumn mindset since the start of the month. October and its many celebrations are on the horizon; we couldn't be more excited for fall. While Halloween is the most universally recognized day of the month, there are actually quite a few October holidays and observances. Dozens, in fact.
Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), which begins on Wednesday, October 2, kickstarts the religious holidays of the month. Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the year in Judaism), Sukkot, and Diwali take place thereafter. All of these celebrations include prayer and highlight the general concept of triumph and light overshadowing darkness.
October isn't only a time for religious holidays, though. It's also a month filled with silly observances such as Pumpkin Day and Black Cat Day and heartfelt days of awareness, like World Mental Health Day, International Day of Peaceful Communication, and National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Individual days aside, October is renowned as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and LGBT History Month.
