NY Times’ ‘The Daily’ beats out Joe Rogan for top podcast of 2024: Apple

The New York Times’s “The Daily” podcast was the most popular podcast of 2024, Apple said, beating out “The Joe Rogan Experience” in an election year.

“The Daily” took the top spot over “Crime Junkie” and Rogan’s show, which came in third, according to Apple’s rankings, which were released over the weekend with year-end charts localized for listeners in nearly 100 countries and regions.

Former Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson’s program, “The Tucker Carlson Show,” took the designation of “Top New Show,” while “Dateline NBC” and “SmartLess” also came in the top 10 in the overall category.

Rogan did take the top designation of Apple’s “Most Followed Show.”

“The Daily’s” victory comes as somewhat of a surprise, given Rogan’s prominence in the 2024 election cycle.

The comedian and commentator endorsed President-elect Trump and hosted him for a three-hour interview as part of a broader push by the Republican nominee to court young male voters.

Vice President Harris also reportedly considered appearing on Rogan’s program, though she never sat for an interview with the podcaster.

“The Daily” is one of the Times’s signature products and is seen as key to its push to expand digital subscriptions in the face of declines to print advertising revenue and the growth of new, nontraditional media players such as Rogan.
