Noah Wyle Talks Shawn Hatosy Off a Ledge in The Pitt Series Premiere — Watch an Exclusive Sneak Peek

Two of John Wells’ Avengers will share the screen in Max’s The Pitt.

TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek from the highly anticipated medical drama, which stars ER’s Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, and features Animal Kingdom’s Shawn Hatosy in a recurring role as fellow emergency room physician, Dr. Jack Abbott.

In the clip above, Robby catches Jack at the end of particularly harrowing shift. He’s standing at the edge of the hospital’s roof, and he’s questioning why he continues to give so much of himself to a job that more often than not drains him of any hope. “I must have had a reason at one time to keep coming back,” he says, “but I can’t think of it right now.”

“Because this is the job that keeps on giving,” Robby answers. “Nightmares, ulcers, suicidal tendencies…. Besides, if you jump on my shift, that’s just rude, man.”

The Pitt premieres Thursday, Jan. 9 with its first two (out of 15 total) episodes. The real-time drama follows Dr. Robby from start to finish on a 15-hour shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center; its severely underfunded (and understaffed) emergency department is endearingly referred to as “The Pitt.” Wyle, a five-time Emmy nominee for his breakout role as John Carter, executive-produces alongside fellow ER vets Wells and R. Scott Gemmill.

Hatosy also has a long history with Wells. He first starred as Detective Sammy Bryant on Southland, and was later cast as Andrew “Pope” Cody on fellow TNT series Animal Kingdom — a role that twice earned him the title of TVLine’s Performer of the Week. More recently, Hatosy appeared in a recurring role on another Wells production, Fox’s Rescue: HI-Surf. (Fans of ER may also recognize him for his memorable guest stint in the Season 13 episode “Jigsaw,” in which he played Mitch, an unstable patient who suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder; watch on Max.)
