Nicholas Hoult Was Gifted Costar Bill Skarsgård's Prosthetic Penis from “Nosferatu” as an Inside Joke
Hoult stars as estate agent Thomas Hutter who works for Skarsgård's Count Orlok in the remake of the 1922 silent film
Nicholas Hoult has a special souvenir from Nosferatu.
The actor joined Lily-Rose Depp, who plays Hoult's wife in the remake of the 1922 silent film, for an "Ask Me Anything" interview with Elle. The pair, who play Thomas and Ellen Hutter in the vampire thriller, asked each other questions about the upcoming horror-drama film.
Depp, 25, asked Hoult, 35, what item he took from any set he's worked on.
"I have Count Orlok's prosthetic penis, framed, at home," Hoult replied.
Hoult recalled the scene from the movie in which Count Orlok, played by Bill Skarsgård, slurps the estate agent's blood. The film's director, Robert Eggers, asked Hoult afterward what shooting that scene was like.
"I said, 'I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.' And then, as a wrap gift, Rob got it framed, and he sent it to my house," Hoult said.
It just got weirder from there. When the prosthetic arrived at Hoult's house, the frame was broken, so he had to bring the whole thing to a local frame shop for repair.

The man working at the shop at the time hardly seemed to notice the odd item, Hoult said.
"When I went back to pick it up, I think he'd clocked like how weird it was that I was framing potentially this vampire penis," Hoult said. "And he was like, 'Is this some kind of collector's piece?' and I was like, 'Hm, you could say that.' "

In another interview with Independent TV on Dec. 23, Hoult and Skarsgård, 34, revisited the moment their characters first met in the film. Though the two co-stars had rehearsed together already and Hoult heard Skarsgård's in-character voice, their first meeting in the film was the first time Hoult saw Skarsgård as Count Orlok, with full prosthetics and makeup.
The experience was "completely immersive," Hoult said, with the sets, music and atmosphere.
"It is a heightened reality," Hoult said of the intensity of filming. "It is very easy, then, to be scared within."
Nosferatu is in theaters on Christmas Day.
