NFL's Roger Goodell Shuts Down Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Conspiracies

Roger Goodell; Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Roger Goodell is putting an end to the NFL conspiracy theories involving Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift once and for all.

Ever since Swift, 34, began dating the Kansas City Chiefs player, 34, people haven't been shy to give their opinions—and theories—regarding the highly-publicized couple.

In addition to claims that their relationship was just a PR stunt because Kelce wanted more fame or because Swift secretly had some stock in the NFL, some skeptics are convinced that the league rigged Super Bowl LVIII in order to send the Chiefs—and Swift—to the Super Bowl and therefore get more viewers.

But in a new pre-Super Bowl briefing, Goodell confirmed that is simply not the case.

"The idea that this was in a script and this was pre-planned— that's just nonsense," the NFL commissioner told reporters on Monday, Feb. 5. "It's frankly not even worth talking about."

"I don’t think I’m that good a scripter, or anybody on our staff," he also stated, adding, "There’s no way I could have scripted that one. Let’s just put it that way."

As for Kelce's whirlwind romance with Swift, Goodell sees no issue with the press surrounding the two love birds, and he clearly has no problem with the extra boost the pop star has given the league.

"We see two people who are really happy together, having fun together," Goodell stated. "I think that's wonderful."

Plus, he went on, "[Swift] knows great entertainment, and I think that’s why she loves NFL football. I think it’s great to have her a part of it. Obviously, it creates a buzz. It creates another group of young fans, particularly young women."

Adding that Swift is "giving people a different perspective of the game," Goodell said he's happy as long as people are talking about the game.

"Whatever the reason is, I’m good with it. Taylor is obviously a dynamo—everything she touches."

And he's certainly right about that one!
