Nigella Lawson & Charles Saatchi 'set to divorce today'

Weeks after shocking photos showed TV chef Nigella Lawson being choked by her husband of ten years Charles Saatchi in a London restaurant, sources told MailOnline that Lawson has filed divorce documents.

This afternoon AAP reports the famous couple's case is listed among a number of others to be dealt with by District Judge Anne Aitken, who is expected to grant a decree nisi at a brief hearing in central London.

A decree nisi is a statement saying the court sees no reason why a divorce cannot be granted.

If it is granted, Saatchi, 70, and Lawson, 53, will then have to wait for a decree absolute, which is usually issued six weeks later and ends the marriage, meaning their divorce will be rubber-stamped some time in September, AAP reports.

After the choking incident, Lawson and son Bruno moved out of the family home and into an apartment, and reports say she plans to make another move to Los Angeles to film her show The Taste.

Saatchi, 70, defended himself against the incriminating photos, calling the incident a 'playful tiff', although more pictures surfaced showing the multi-millionaire businessman also tweaking her nose in what the photographer called '27 minutes of madness'.

Saatchi announced the pair's plans to divorce in a statement to the Mail on Sunday, explaining:

"I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way."
