Tom Williams engaged

You need a steady hand in the carpentry trade, but when Australia’s favourite chippie, Tom Williams sat down for dinner with his partner of 11 months, fashion designer Rachel Gilbert, the normally unflappable star was shaking all over.

‘Is it hot in here?’ the handsome 41-year-old nervously asked his girlfriend as he tried to work up some courage. Little did Rachel know that Tom was nervously preparing to propose, with a stunning diamond ring that he’d spent three weeks designing with celebrated jeweler Nicholas Haywood.

Williams and Gilbert started dating after being seated together at the Cleo Bachelor of the Year dinner in April last year. Williams propose at one of the couples favourite restaurants in Sydney.

Williams, a long-time TV favourite, is best known for winning Dancing With The Stars in 2005. He went on to briefly date his dance partner on the show, Kym Johnson.

Gilbert is a successful fashion designer whose sleek sequinned creations are often spotted on red carpets.
