The royal family's annual expenditure revealed

Sir Alan Reid, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, has released the royals' annual expenditure report from March 2014-March 2015, and the figures might surprise you.

According to the report from Clarence House, the royal income for the year was a whopping $40 million (AUD) - which was up 1.7% from the previous year.

This income comes from the Duchy of Cornwall, the estate given to the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, which funds all things royal from Prince George's crocs to private planes.

The official budget reportedly spent $5.9 million on clothing and travel expenses and the running of the Kensington Palace office for Prince William and Kate - and the kids of course, and Prince Harry for the year.

“We can’t identify how much of it is allocated to their office,” a palace source tells PEOPLE, adding that unlike in previous years, they have not broken it down into specific costs, eg. Kate's wardrobe.

The young royals however do have to foot their own bills for things such as the renovations to their country home, Anmer Hall (which they were gifted by the Queen) and their personal staff's salaries etc.

Although Wills does have a day job as a pilot for the East Anglia Air Ambulance, the second-in-line donates his salary to charity, but don't worry Wills and Kate have a number of other income sources including the inheritance that was left to him by his mother, Princess Diana, believed to be around $20 million.

The Queen reportedly receives around $77 million each year by British Parliament to maintain and perform the duties of her role, but it is unclear how much of this filters down to the rest of the royals - she did however fund the $6.8 million renovation of Wills and Kate's Kensington Palace’s Apartment.

Speaking of the Queen, it looks like she might be up for a hefty renovation bill herself, with reports that Buckingham Palace is 'falling apart'.

The 300-year-old palace, which hasn't been renovated since Elizabeth herself took residence in 1952, needs about $306 million worth of work to fix the roofs and replace old wiring and plumbing.
