Melissa McCarthy has opened up about her new clothing line, joking it was a bit of a "selfish venture".

The 44-year-old funny woman spoke out about her new Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line, which she designed to address her biggest pet peeves in the fashion industry.

“I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes? This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself,” Melissa told People magazine.

The Bridesmaids star went on to discuss how her line will address her biggest fashion pet peeves, making sure her pieces are designed to fit everyone from size four to size 28.

“I’ve worn every single piece. There are little jeans that are super stretchy and they come all the way up, because I just do not need to see anyone’s muffin top, and I do not need to see anyone bend over and be able to tell what color underwear they’re wearing anymore,” she explained.

The comedian also admitted to having a fashion pet peeve with sleeves when she was told plus size women shouldn't wear them.

“Yes, there are lots of sleeves here! Hallelujah! Do you know how many fights I’ve had about sleeves?"

“I was actually told once [by a manufacturer she’s not working with now], ‘Plus-size women do not want sleeves, in any capacity.’ I was like, ‘Are you crazy? That’s not accurate! I am plus-size, and I want them, I have friends who are size 26 and size 8 and they want a sleeve! Very few things [in Seven7] don’t have sleeves. My stuff has sleeves, my stuff has pockets, you can count on that.”

Melissa's new line debuts this August and will be available at Lane Bryant, Macy's, HSN, and her own personal website.
