Why you should never take your shoes off on a plane

There are plenty of things passengers do on planes that annoy fellow travellers and cabin crew alike, but something that tops the list is feet.

While most of us know that walking around with no shoes on can be unhygienic, there are that and so many more reasons you should definitely not do it on a plane.

Flight attendants have revealed shoeless passengers are one of the things that annoy them a most, according to a Quora thread that asked the question.

“On many flights, we give complimentary amenity kits that include socks. Do they know how dirty/disgusting the aircraft floors are? Obviously not.”

On another Quora thread, crew member Tony, said it is also about more than just being unhygienic and gross.

Wearing no shoes can affect your safety in the event of an emergency.

“Besides stinking up the whole cabin, footwear is essential during an aeroplane emergency, even though it is not part of the flight safety information,” he wrote online.

“During an emergency, all sorts of debris and unpleasant ground surfaces will block your way towards the exit, as well as outside the aircraft.”

He said if your feet aren’t properly covered it could be difficult for you to make it out safely.

“Imagine destroying your bare feet as you run down the aisle covered with broken glass, fires and metal shards,” he said.

“Kind of like John McClane in Die Hard, but worse.”

If you absolutely have to take your shoes off, Tony suggest pinching a pair of those cheap slippers found in most hotel rooms to wear during the flight.
