A popular pet treat has been pulled from shelves across the nation, with some crocodile feet products now the subject of an urgent recall.

Anyone with any Australian Crocodile Traders 1kg crocodile feet or 200-500g packs of crocodile bone in leg feet and skin marked as packaged between Jan 1 2023 to May 16 2024 on the packaging are affected.

The recall was issued after the discovery of metal was found within the product.

The Australian Crocodile Traders has advised any consumers with the affected crocodile products to return them “to their place of purchase for a full refund”.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” the recall states.

In Australia, the products are available to buy from independent retailers across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

While it’s normal for Aussies to eat kangaroos and emus without batting an eyelash, taking a bite of crocodile meat does raise some eyebrows.

However, the giant water lizard is a popular treat among dog owners who purchase them for their furry companions.

It’s been hailed as a healthy alternative to fish and chicken for those allergic, with the product sold throughout the world. In certain countries such as Singapore and its neighbours, crocodile farms have been set up in order to keep up with the demand.
