Mum's dilemma over neighbourhood nightmare

There’s nothing worse than having noisy neighbours, especially when you’ve enjoyed a quiet home life for a long time.

But one mum has been left in a pickle, after her next door neighbours decided to install a home garden bar out of nowhere and now they’re partying their hearts away throughout the night.

At a loss for what to do, the mum took to parenting forum Mumsnet, to ask other parents how she should handle the tricky situation.

“Our next door neighbour has recently had a lot of work done on their house. They have, as part of this, built a large shed-like structure in the back garden, which I now realise contains some sort of “bar”,” she started her post.

She went on to say that she gets on well with her neighbours and they even invited her husband and son over to their new bar one of the nights during the week.

“But I do not like the fact that so many of his other friends have been coming and going all week so far,” she continued.

“Additionally, there have been people out drinking in this bar until the early hours three out of the last four nights.”

She asked readers if they thought it was appropriate for her neighbours to have a bar in a semi-detached house garden?

People were divided on the topic but most thought the mum’s concerns were totally validated.

“No it’s appropriate at all. Depends how late it’s ‘opening hours’ are I suppose. You’re going to have to say something or it will go on and on,” one person said.

“My dad has a small bar in his garden (essentially a posh shed with a bar and fridges in it!). He occasionally has friends back for a quick beer. He’s never had any complaints, I wouldn’t say it’s inappropriate if they’re respectful and keep the noise down,” another commenter said.

One person reassured the mum that they’ll ‘get bored soon’

“Everyone I know who’s done these pop up garden bars in sheds have got bored after a month or so!” they said.

“It's new it's a novelty and he is showing it off. It will calm down when everyone has seen it.

I'd have a nice friendly chat with him about reasonable use. See what he says and go from there,” another person said.
