An intensive care helicopter from Uppsala is traveling to the scene to assist those who’ve been injured, while some nearby schools have evacuated, Aftonbladet reported.

Police are on-site at six schools that went into lockdown as a precaution, the Swedish newspaper Expressen reported.

They do not want to rule out that there is more than one shooter, per the outlet. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer said the Government is also following the incident closely.

Police have warned members of the public to stay away from the area.

"This is currently seen as an attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offense," they said in a statement, per the BBC.

Police shared an update on the situation in a press conference at 3.30 p.m.

"We suspect one of the people in the hospital is the perpetrator," police said, per their website. "We are continuing to search the school and are focusing on security work – which we have done during the day as well.

"We housed students and staff at several schools because we did not really know the perpetrator or the perpetrators' next steps and whether there were more attacks in the works," the update continued. "Now we no longer believe that and have begun an evacuation. However, we do not want the public or other people at the scene, the operation is still ongoing."
