Advertisers will pay big bucks for a coveted time slot and they want to make it count. After all, when you are paying millions of dollars for just a 30-second time slot, you want to do everything possible to make it stand out.

However, it's a no-joking matter when it comes to the cost of a Super Bowl ad. Even though the price seems unreal, it's definitely a fact and companies are willing to pay the cost.

How Much Does a Super Bowl Ad Cost in 2025?
According to USA Today, a 30-second commercial during Super Bowl LVIII last year cost $7 million. And according to Variety, that price was the same for ads in 2025's Super Bowl as of this past summer. But more reporting has come out since then that up the ante.
Per Variety, Fox Corp.—the company that's slated to broadcast Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, 2025—sold out all of its commercial slots in August 2024. This would be the third year in a row that a 30-second Super Bowl ad costs $7 million.
But 2025's Super Bowl ads are now more expensive. Deadline reported on Jan. 29 that Fox "cracked the $8 million mark" for 30-second Super Bowl ads and they reportedly sold at least 10 ads for this price. That makes the average price of a commercial during the Big Game worth $7.5 million.
That's worlds away from the very first Super Bowl in 1967, which had ad costs of $37,500 for a 30-second time slot. For comparison, ads that run during the NFL season during Sunday Night Football are $882,079, according to Sports Business Journal.
The first time the cost was over a million dollars was in 1995 when it cost $1.15 million for the 30-second time slot. Each year, the cost continues to grow and the biggest jump was between 2021 and 2022 when the cost went from $5.5 million to $6.5 million.

How Many People Watch the Super Bowl?
Whether you are a die-hard football fan or just enjoy the halftime show and the funny commercials, the Super Bowl game is the most-watched show on television. As the NFL reported from Nielsen, Super Bowl LVIII was the most-watched television event of all time and brought in a total of 210 million viewers in 2024. That's the most-watched telecast of all time, and all to watch the Kansa City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Before the 2024 game, the record was set the year before in 2023 (Super Bowl LVII) with 115.1 million people watching the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles, per CNN. 2025 might beat both of those years out, as well. Time will tell!
