Who Is MrBeast's Girlfriend? All About Fellow Gamer Thea Booysen (Who Met the “Beast Games” Host 'By Accident')
'Beast Games' host MrBeast and his girlfriend, Thea Booysen, started dating in 2022 after meeting through mutual friends
MrBeast and his girlfriend, Thea Booysen, both made names for themselves on the internet.
The YouTuber, born Jimmy Donaldson, met Booysen, a fellow gamer and internet personality from South Africa, in 2022 when he was visiting her home country. During that trip, MrBeast went to dinner with a mutual friend who invited Booysen to join them.
“I really wanted to meet him in person,” she shared during an interview on the Wide Awake Podcast. “He was super nice, very down to earth and he started asking me a lot of questions. Little did I know he was going off a list because he was looking for a new girlfriend."
After that initial conversation, MrBeast and Booysen stayed in touch and quickly started dating. By April 2022, they made their first public appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards. Booysen later shared an image of them on the orange carpet on Instagram, describing it as an “amazing night.”
Although MrBeast tends to keep his personal life private, he hasn’t shied away from sharing photos of Booysen on social media or talking about their relationship.
“Luckily, I’m very happy with the partner that I have,” he said in a 2023 interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, adding, “I do think she makes me better.”
So who is MrBeast’s girlfriend? Here’s everything to know about Thea Booysen and her relationship with the online personality.
She’s a gamer and YouTuber
Like MrBeast, Booysen is a professional content creator. She is an esports commentator and online gamer who goes by the name TheaBeasty.
Booysen started her gaming career in 2016 when she began streaming card-based video games on Twitch and YouTube. She is also a co-owner of the South African esports organization Nixuh.
She has multiple degrees
Booysen often speaks about her desire to learn — a trait that MrBeast really admires.
“She has a genuine love of learning, and that’s something that I have,” he said on the Lex Fridman Podcast. “I’m always learning and improving [with her].”
In 2022, Booysen graduated from Stellenbosch University with a bachelor’s degree in law and an honors degree in psychology. In November 2024, she earned a master’s degree in neuropsychology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and shared a photo of herself and MrBeast celebrating her graduation.
She’s a published author
Booysen has a passion for creative writing. In 2022, she published her debut young adult novel, The Marked Children, which she started working on while still in high school.
“It took me about seven years to finish it,” she told the Expresso Show, explaining that she worked on the novel throughout her undergraduate studies. “It feels surreal, in all honesty, having it go from the PC and the word documents to paper feels really nice.”
She met MrBeast by chance
During an interview on the Wide Awake Podcast, Booysen described how she and MrBeast first met “by accident” in 2022.
“Jimmy was coming down to South Africa with Logan Paul and Casey Neistat and they had a video they wanted to film in Antarctica,” she said. “Everybody got COVID so they had to cancel the video and stay in South Africa a little bit longer.”
She went on to explain that during that unexpected delay, MrBeast went to dinner with one of her friends who asked her to stop by. Booysen agreed, saying she “was curious” about him as a person. According to the streamer, she and MrBeast started talking about everything from neuroscience to her book, and right away, sparks flew.
“The fact that he could keep up with the conversation to me was very attractive because you have to have a certain amount of interest and intellect,” Booysen said.
They had a long-distance relationship at first
After that first interaction, MrBeast sent Booysen a DM, and the two started talking online. Soon after that, he flew back to South Africa for one day just to see her again.
“He was adamant he wanted to come visit again and I was keen — I wanted to get to know him better,” she said on the Wide Awake Podcast.
They quickly started dating and in April 2022, the couple made their first public appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards. Initially, their relationship was long-distance, but in 2024, Booysen confirmed to MyBroadband that they’d moved in together.
She went on to explain that because of her tourist visa, she spends half of the year in the U.S. and the other half in South Africa. “I’m essentially living with him and we just adopted a dog," Booysen said.
She’s spoken out in support of MrBeast
MrBeast has faced controversy, including resurfaced clips of him using insensitive language and an ongoing lawsuit alleging “unsafe” working conditions on his Prime Video game show Beast Games.
In August 2024, Booysen replied to a comment on a now-deleted YouTube video to defend her boyfriend. In response to a fan who urged her to break up with “the Beast,” she shared her thoughts.
“I appreciate the message. There is so much that is not being said, I wish I could talk more about the situation,” Booysen wrote. “Half the things that are said are not true. I wouldn’t be with him if they were. It is so important to me to be a good person.”
MrBeast later responded to the claims, writing on X (formerly Twitter), "We have tons of behind the scenes dropping when the show does to show how blown out of proportion these claims were. Just can’t release it now because it would spoil the games."
MrBeast said Booysen has helped him “mellow out”
On Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast in 2022, MrBeast shared that Booysen met all of his standards right away.
“I just need a partner who loves learning [and] just wants to improve,” he said. “It’s very hard to find someone like that that’s also very beautiful.”
In an interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, he also praised Booysen for helping him become a better person. “I struggle to turn off my brain at night,” he said. “But just chatting with her and hanging out with her helps me, basically, just shut my brain off and mellow out.”
