“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” Season 2: All About the Next Chapter for Donald Glover's Spy Romance Series
From who is joining the cast to where to watch, here's everything to know about season 2 of 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'
Warning: Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 spoilers ahead!
Donald Glover's hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith is coming back for another season.
Created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, the first season of the Prime Video series, inspired by the 2005 film of the same name, followed two strangers-turned-spies, John and Jane (Glover and Maya Erskine), who pose as a married couple while navigating weekly high-risk missions and an evolving romantic connection.
Following its February 2024 premiere, the show became a top 5 new series debut for Prime Video in the U.S., per Deadline, and scored 16 Emmy nominations, including outstanding drama series and acting nods for Glover and Erskine.
Sloane will return as the showrunner for season 2, serving as an executive producer alongside Glover, per Deadline. In December 2024, the outlet announced that Anora's Mark Eydelshteyn would be joining the cast as a fresh male lead.
Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger that left fans wondering whether or not Glover and Erskine would be returning, and Sloane has remained tight-lipped about their fate.
“We’re just trying to make the best version of season 2 possible,” Sloane told Deadline in August 2024. “That’s why we’re being so coy about it.”
She added, “We wanted the ending to leave on this nod to a '70s cinema cliffhanger. If we tell you too much, you’ll know early if they survived.”
From how season 1 left off to new cast members joining the series, here's everything to know about season 2 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
How did Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 end?
Season 1 followed secret agents John and Jane Smith as they went undercover as a married couple for a top-secret mission. But things got complicated when their fake relationship turned into something real, forcing them to navigate both their growing feelings and the challenges of life as spies. As they fell in love, they began to question their allegiance to the mysterious spy organization they worked for, known as Hihi.
Things took an intense turn in the finale when John and Jane were both convinced that the other had been instructed to kill them, leading them on a rampage through the streets of Manhattan. However, they later discover that it is another couple of John and Janes (Wagner Moura and Parker Posey) that had been sent to kill them for trying to leave the organization.
In the final moments, protagonist John is left wounded inside the house's panic room, while protagonist Jane — who has one bullet remaining — steps outside to confront evil Jane. Moments later, three gunshots ring out—suggesting another weapon was fired — but the screen cuts away without revealing who was hit or what happened next, leaving everyone's fate in suspense.
Who is in the cast of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2?
The first and only cast member to have been confirmed for season 2 is newcomer Eydelshteyn, who made waves in 2024's Anora and is set to play the titular role of Mr. Smith.
Although it remains unknown if Glover and Erksine will reprise their roles, the actor is set to return as executive producer alongside Sloan.
What have the cast and crew said about season 2 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith?
During a June 2024 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, host Jimmy Kimmel brought up the fan theory that many people think Glover and Erskine's characters might have been killed in the season 1 finale. While holding a print out of a Variety headline that read they were "not expected to return" for season 2, Kimmel asked, "How would they do Mr. & Mrs. Smith without Mr. & Mrs. Smith?"
The costars remained tight-lipped, and Erskine responded, "It'll be more fun if you see the second season ... you wanna wait."
"Who says we're not in it?" Glover added. "Maybe we are, maybe we aren't."
One month later, Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders told Deadline that writers were "hard at work" on the season 2 script.
"[Head of Amazon MGM Studios Jennifer Salke] and I heard a pitch on what Season 2 would be about, and we will love it. Donald’s a busy guy, he is a multi-multi-hyphenated but that show will be back sooner rather than later as well," he said.
Salke added, “I think audiences will get everything they want" when season 2 returns.
