Mountain Dew Is Quietly Discontinuing 3 Fan-Favorite Flavors

Of course, a few new ones are in the works, too.

There is only so much space in the grocery store for new soda flavors. A sad consequence of that truth is that when a brand introduces new flavors, they often have to say goodbye to others. Coca-Cola recently bid adieu to Cherry Vanilla and Diet Coke with Splenda, but just a short while later added two new flavors, Orange Cream, and Orange Cream Zero.

The rotation of varieties and flavors can leave fans dizzy. Last summer, Mountain Dew introduced three new flavors: red Star Spangled Splash, white Freedom Fusion, and blue Liberty Chill. Once the Paris Olympics and the Fourth of July were over, those flavors started to disappear off of store shelves.

The brand also introduced a few new sodas as the year went on. Blackberry Citrus started to hit shelves around October along with the limited-time, Halloween-themed Voo-Dew, and in December, Baja Blast and Baja Blast Zero Sugar showed up on store shelves (but only Walmart store shelves). Told you it was dizzying.

Now, new flavors are about to crowd three fan faves from shelves, and you know pop drinkers have something to say.

Fans Mourn Mountain Dew's Discontinued Major Melon, Spark, and Frost Bite Flavors

Instagram’s snachwithzach broke the news that Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus, which looks to have an orange flavor, will be in stores in April, and Mountain Dew Dragonfruit will be arriving by June. In July, Dew drinkers will be able to get Mountain Dew Honeydew. And Trolli Cherry Melon comes around by fall.

That means that Major Melon ("charged with watermelon") and Spark (a raspberry lemonade riff) are no longer in production, and Frost Bite will disappear when Dragonfruit comes along. Additionally, it seems that Voo-Dew will be replaced by Troli Cherry Melon for its Halloween release.

“What the heck is with these choices?!“ one disgruntled commenter asked. “Spark was amazing. Replacing Voodoo with gummi worm?” “Rip voodoo spark and major melon,” said another upset fan.

Major Melon seems to be the flavor that will be most missed. Comments like “Major melon was my favorite flavor,” “ No major melon? No more mountain dew!” and “I will never forgive them for taking Major Melon away from me“ showed up throughout the thread.

Kind of makes you wonder if anyone drinks the OG Mountain Dew anymore. It’s still in stores, and even if no one is drinking it, we have to assume it’s safe. Not only is it a thirst-quenching drink, but you can also use it for making Mountain Dew Cake or Easy Apple Dumplings With Mountain Dew. We don’t see something like Trolli Cherry Melon working in those scrumptious treats.
