MonsterVerse Expands With ‘Return to Skull Island’ Comic Books From Titan and Legendary (EXCLUSIVE)
The Monsterverse is expanding off screen with a new comic book series.
“Return to Skull Island” — from Titan Comics and Legendary Comics — is set in the world of Legendary’s “Skull Island: The Animated Series,” currently streaming on Netflix, and follows a group of survivors stranded on the perilous South Pacific island. As they uncover its dark secrets, they face life-threatening challenges and fight for survival in a land where every creature is a threat — including King Kong himself. The series is written by Simon Furman (“Transformers”) and illustrated by Christopher Jones (“Doctor Who: Once Upon a Time Lord”).

The first issue of “Return to Skull Island” will debut in comic shops on June 4 and is set to feature a cover by artist Inhyuk Lee. It was also feature in the April edition of Diamond Previews and be available for pre-order.

The Monsterverse was last seen on the big screen with Adam Wingard’s 2024 hit “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” which earned more than $570 million for Warner Bros. The follow up, due for release in early 2027, is being directed by Grant Sputore (“I Am Mother”), with Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo and Matthew Modine having joined the cast. Filming is expected to commence in April 2025.
