Model gets real about post-baby body image

Aussie mum and model Helena Vestergaard has opened up about how insecure she used to feel about her body. That is, until she experienced pregnancy.

Helena is mum to daughter River, one, and is now expecting her second child with pro surfer partner Nathan Webster.

In an honest post to Instagram, the model admits that before she had her first child, she would constantly be worried about how her body looked and whether or not others were judging her.

I hated walking around in a bikini and would worry people would judge my appearance,” Helena wrote.

But when she fell pregnant with River she “realised how much more important your body is then just trying to make it look good”.

“Now in my second pregnancy I am so much more comfortable in my own skin. I’ll walk around in a skimpy bikini with my big belly and jiggly bum and just not give a f*** because I’m proud of my body for carrying two children,” her post continued.

“My point is as a women we judge ourselves so harshly, I wish we could embrace our bodies’ amazing abilities more than worry about some silly cellulite.”

Her post has since received thousands of likes from women everywhere saying they can relate, with others equally in awe of the female body.

“It’s shocking to me that you would ever feel like people would judge your appearance. I really want to know why we worry so much,” one person commented.

You are absolutely gorgeous and so definitely right. The female body is a true wonder,” another added.

A refreshing reminder of how incredibly amazing our bodies are from conception birth and beyond! Thank you for such a purposeful truthful post,” was one person’s response.
