My Kitchen Rules star Ash Keillah was hospitalised last night after a serious eye infection left him ‘barely able to see’ out of his only eye.

The reality star lost his left eye in a glassing incident 10 years ago, and was rushed to hospital last night after intense training for the surfing World Qualifying Series landed him with an infection.

Taking to Instagram this morning, the cooking and surfing fanatic shared the scare with his 42k followers, saying the incident ‘hasn’t shaken my positivity’.

“After announcing that I’m going to compete in October I have stepped up my training 10 x more than ever before,” he explained in the post.

He went on to say saying the ‘one thing’ he didn’t factor in was, “‘all the pressure I’m putting on my 1 little eye!”

“My eye had been battered around to much by all the sun and wind which caused a lot of irritation which has lead to an infection. Only having 1 eye this has been taken very seriously…(sic)” he said.

The 34-year-old goes by ‘The Friendly Pirate’ on Instagram and is easily recognisable by his trademark black eye patch and his overwhelming positivity.

He competed with partner Stacey Allen on this season of My Kitchen Rules before pulling out of the competition early over similar issues.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle following his shock exit from the show, he explained that the ‘tough’ decision was made when he realised he risked losing his eye, and therefore sight altogether.

“Having one eye, those sorts of things can go to your good eye or to your other eye,” he said.

“That’s a risk, when you have one eye… the risk of actually when you get infections, losing your eyes it’s a real thing.”
