Mindy Kaling Gives Rare Update on Her Love Life as a Single Mom of 3

Mindy Kaling loves writing about romance, but she's not always forthcoming about its role in her own life.

The writer and actress, 45, was asked about her dating life during a March 3 appearance on Dax Shepard's podcast, Armchair Expert, and offered a rare insight into the role that romance — or a lack thereof — plays in her life right now.

"I don't remember the last time I had a crush," Kaling admitted. "I don't have lust feelings."

As she reflected, she admitted that it could be "connected to" the fact that she recently welcomed a daughter, Anne, who just turned 1 — and whose birth she kept quiet for more than four months.

"If you've had to pump milk for a baby within the last six months, maybe you have to give yourself some time," she said, relating her status as a mom of a newborn to her lack of "lust feelings."

"I'm at that age," she continued, jokingly comparing herself to Kylie Jenner, who is a mom of two, and who Kaling said bounced back faster than her. "But again, I'm twice the age she was when she had a baby."

Kaling frequently faces questions about her dating life as it relates to her longtime friend B.J. Novak, as the pair dated on and off while working on The Office.

Though they steadfastly shut down speculation about returning to their romantic relationship, their tight friendship continues to fuel curiosity.

"He is a wonderful friend and he is the godparent of both my kids and he loves children and they're so attached to him," Kaling said on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022. "He's really part of our family, but we've known each other for a long, long time and I think anyone who's been friends with someone for 18, 19 years and at one point dated and now doesn't, they maybe understand this. You have exes that you wouldn't necessarily marry now."

Novak's attendance at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last month did little to ease speculation once again.

He also gave a speech on Kaling's behalf, calling her a "brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother of three, a deep and caring daughter and friend and mentor to so many."

"You'd be on the walk of talent if they had one," Novak, 45, continued. "You'd be on the walk of friendship. You'd be on the walk of compassionate parenthood, but let's face it all of these would be terrible field trips, so here you are instead, very deservedly, a person who means so much to so many on the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
