Miley Cyrus talks 'whiskey and pills' in post-Liam breakup song
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s separation continues to make headlines, as the pop star releases a new song that seems to speak directly to the high profile breakdown.
The song titled Slide Away was dropped overnight and contains more than one telltale lyric pointing to the very famous subject matter.
The song comes on the back of shocking claims that Liam has cancelled work in the wake of the split, with the Daily Mail reporting he pulled out of a promotional event for action thriller Killerman in Los Angeles next week.
Now Miley’s song is fuelling rumours the Hunger Games star is facing an uphill battle.
Lines in the single seem to explicitly tie the song to the singer’s short-lived marriage.
Lyrics including, “I think I'm gonna miss these harbour lights / But it's time to let it go,” are among those raising eyebrows, but nothing is gaining as much attention as a nod to rumours of substance issues within the relationship.
‘Whiskey and pills’ follow ‘whiskey and pills’ rumours
The heartbreaking song seems to nod towards rumours that Liam’s ‘wild partying’ really was behind the breakup.
The artwork shows bottles of booze and pills bobbing around a pool and she also sings, “I want my house in the hills / Don't want the whiskey and pills / I don't give up easily but I don't think I'm down."
It’s an interesting choice considering sources from Cyrus’s side told TMZ that Miley tried to save her marriage but her so-called dealbreaker was that Liam was drinking a lot and using certain drugs — and that she wanted to no part of it.
The rumours flew in the face of assumptions that exuberant Miley was the wild child in the relationship.
“Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hardcore partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that’s actually [not accurate],” a friend of the couple told People magazine.
“Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now.”

The saga was heightened when Miley was spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter in Italy before returning to L.A. with the reality star at the same time news of her split from Liam broke.
Mixed emotions online
Miley’s family and friends have flooded the comments with positivity and praise, but she is also faceing criticism for airing dirty laundry from fans protective of both her and Liam. There is definitely some “poor Liam” going around.

Others loved the raw impact of the song, and praised Miley’s vulnerability.
slide away is one of my favorite Miley songs to date. it sounds so genuine & truthful to how she’s feeling right now..and it also made me hurt for Liam 💔

Most noticed is of course the ‘whiskey and pills’ reference.
Though Miley didn’t say specifically who she was referring to in light of the rumours more than one famous commentator is raising an eyebrow and their voice at the inclusion of potentially private information.
Meanwhile, Miley’s new love interest Kaitlynn Carter seems to be mending bridges with her recent ex Brody Jenner.
The son of Caitlyn Jenner took to social media with a heartfelt response to the rumours surrounding his own breakup, and his ex-wife commented a heart emoji, suggesting the two are putting their differences behind them.
The song comes after Miley and Liam both addressed the split on Instagram this week, Miley with a lengthy reflection, and Liam with a short caption stating he wouldn’t be discussing the matter.
