Michael Strahan Makes Bold Claim About Who He’s Rooting for at the Super Bowl
Michael Strahan is worried that he might have just said something that will get him “in trouble” with fans of his former NFL team.
The Good Morning America co-host, who spent his entire 15-season professional football career as a defensive end with the New York Giants, said during a recent appearance on The View that he feels divided over which team he should root for at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Feb. 9. The Kansas City Chiefs, who won the last two Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024, will be playing against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The conversation began when The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked Strahan, 53, what he is “most looking forward to” at the big game next month.
“Nothing,” he joked in a video clip that the ABC daytime talk show posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, Jan. 31. "I dislike ‘em both!”
The father of four then offered a more serious answer to the question as he admitted he is feeling “kinda mixed.” He has history with Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who was with the Giants when Strahan and his team won Super Bowl XLII in 2008. "I’m like, you’ve won two in a row, going for the three-peat, great story,” Strahan observed.

But Strahan also has a couple of reasons to root for the Eagles. “You got my guy [Eagles running back] Saquon Barkley on the other end, and [Eagles quarterback] Jalen Hurts is a good friend of mine,” he explained. “So I look at them and I think how incredible their seasons have been, and I think that both of those guys do the right thing all the time, and they’re great examples—not saying the guys at Kansas City aren’t—but I would love to see those two win a ring.”
Strahan then acknowledged that it felt odd for him to indicate support for any team other than the Giants. “I’m a Giant. Saying that I want the Eagles to win,” he said, pausing before admitting, “I might be in trouble.”
As the defending champions, the Kansas City players are aspiring to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers last year and beat the Eagles back in 2023, when the streak first began.
