Each season, we break down everything you need to know about the new collections in The Fashion Week Cheat Sheet. After speaking to the designers about their inspiration, their hero pieces, the faces on the catwalk and the names on the front row, we present your complete guide to autumn/winter 2025.

For autumn/winter 2025, Michael Kors worked around the theme of ‘dégagé chic’ – a take on comfortable, relaxed sophistication and glamour.

“This show was inspired by the laidback elegance that imbues the spirit of our homes and our new Michael Kors Collection store on Madison Avenue,” the designer wrote of the new season. “Timeless, warm, modern, architectural yet sensual, I wanted the collection to exemplify cozy modernism and hands-in-the-pockets chic.”

Imbuing the collection with wearable, versatile yet glamorous pieces, it made for his most timeless collection yet.

Theme and inspiration

The starting point this season, for Kors, was a sense of warmth, he told journalists at his press preview, pointing to women with timeless style who were pinned to his mood board. “Whether it’s Uma Thurman in the Nineties, Sharon Stone in 2000, Lauren Hutton in the Seventies or Zoe Saldana three weeks ago, it’s timeless,” he explained.

Imbuing the collection with relaxed glamour – this, as with so many of his collections, was about creating pieces that are special yes, but extremely wearable. They are comfortable and are designed to stand the test of time. “So, no corsets, no mermaid gowns here,” he said.

Instead, we saw relaxed wool tailoring, leather jackets and shearling coats in blacks, greys, chocolate and aubergine hues. There were liquid silk dresses and shirts, sheer draped blouses and lots of layered knitwear. Many pieces felt trans-seasonal too – dresses, trousers and skirts that could be worn with flip flops or boots.

“Why not wear something that's comfortable, sensual, easy to move in,” he said of one of the final evening looks. “So, flat slippers at night and silk jersey with paillettes. This is the opposite of the corset and the bustier – I think it’s just timeless and chic.”

Hero pieces

The loose-fitting, flowing sequin gowns feel like the epitome of the ‘dégagé chic’ that Kors wanted to tap into for this season, while the exquisite leather jackets and gloves will no doubt be wardrobe mainstays for his customer this coming autumn.

The setting

This season’s show took place at Terminal Warehouse – the former location of the iconic 1990s Tunnel Nightclub – in Chelsea. The space was transformed into a sleek, welcoming residential space with mid-century furniture, exposed brick and wood panelling, Japanese lanterns, end tables and home décor reminiscent of a downtown New York loft.
