Yahoo Lifestyle Mercedes-Benz Teamed up With Moncler for This New Ultra-Exclusive G-Wagen
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is getting dressed up for its 45th anniversary.
The German luxury marque has a new ultra-exclusive G Class variant called the Past II Future. The special edition is limited to just 20 examples and was designed by fashion designer Nigo, who worked in several references to the model’s rich heritage.

The G Class Past II Future is the latest extension of the automaker’s collaboration with Moncler and was unveiled at the pair’s recent “The City of Genius” show in Shanghai. The vehicle is directly inspired by a one-off restoration that was designed by Nigo. But while that G-Wagen was a two-door convertible, this one is the hardtop four-door that’s closer to what most people think of when they think of the nameplate.
The 4×4 features a two-tone paint job that pairs olive green with grey. The combo is offset by a number of matte black trim on the window frame, vehicle-spanning bumper guards, and light alloy wheels. Rounding out the exterior package is “Past II Future” branding and a rear-mounted spare wheel with a cover that features the Mercedes-Benz x Moncler collaboration logo.
The interior is just as stylish. The cabin isn’t radically different from that of the standard G Class, but its seats feature striking checkered inserts just like those found on the restoration (the pattern also conveniently matches that used on the shirts in the latest Mercedes and Moncler’s capsule collection). The center console also features the vehicle’s “1 of 20” series number.
The G Class Past II Future is available with either the G 450d’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine or the G550’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8. The former churns out 362 hp and 553 ft lbs of torque, while the latter makes 416 hp and 450 ft lbs of torque. These are G-Wagens we’re talking about, of course, so all that grunt is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
With only 20 G Class Past II Future examples set to roll off the line, the SUV will likely be exceedingly hard to get. Mercedes has not said how many are destined for the U.S. but did say that deliveries of the model will begin next spring. It also remains to be seen how much the vehicle will cost but it figures to be well north of the G-Wagen’s $150,000 starting price.
