Tea up a cholesterol buster

Researchers at California’s Western University made the discovery after reviewing 20 controlled trials of more than 1400 people. But they note that the tea didn’t improve levels of good cholesterol or triglycerides.

The effective dose range was between 145 and 3000 milligrams of green tea antioxidants a day (the lower number is about one cup) and notable changes to cholesterol levels were seen from three to 24 weeks.

While the results are promising, the researchers warn people taking cholesterol medicine not to replace it with green tea, as more work needs to be done.
