Memory under assault

Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine monitored 23,000 people to assess their likelihood of suffering a stroke, taking into account age, blood pressure, diabetes, history of heart disease or other heart issues. They discovered that the higher a person’s risk of stroke, the more likely it was they’d develop cognitive impairment over an average of four years.

But there’s good news too: early detection and treatment of high blood pressure can prevent the effect.
