It’s the kind of bling some of us could only ever dream of ever being proposed to with, but Meghan Markle has made a major change to the engagement ring she received from Prince Harry.

While it nearly went unnoticed, the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex appears to have swapped out her traditional, gold band, for a glittering pave diamond band.

New photos from Trooping the Colour two weeks ago show the Duchess’ hand close up while waving to the crowd - and the change is clearly visible.

However, not everyone thinks Meghan’s upgrade is something to be celebrated, as one royal expert believes the ring is something to be treasured and shouldn’t be modified.

"I find it a bit odd Meghan would want to alter a ring that her husband had especially designed for her," editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward told The Sun.

"A royal engagement ring is a piece of history not a bit of jewellery to be updated when it looks old fashioned."

Prince Harry designed the ring himself, with the help of jewellers Cleave and Company.

It features an impressive centre stone from Botswana – a place that holds special meaning for the couple after they camped there together early in their relationship.

“The ring is - is obviously yellow gold because that's her favourite - and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Harry said in his first interview with Meghan to the BBC.

Harry also made sure to include a tribute to his mum in Meghan’s ring.

“The little diamonds either side are from my mother's jewellery collection to make sure that she's with us on this - on this crazy journey together,” he said.

Meghan’s engagement ring from her ex-husband

It’s not the first dazzling engagement ring Meghan has sported, as her ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, popped the question with a stunning princess cut diamond ring.

The beautiful diamond was set on a band of glittering jewels, which were further enhanced by her wedding ring, which was also a band of diamonds.

Meghan and Trevor tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in 2011. They split in 2013.
