Meghan Markle Reveals She Changed Her Last Name in ‘With Love, Meghan’
Meghan Markle is no longer Meghan Markle, at least in her day-to-day life. The Duchess of Sussex revealed that she has taken up Sussex as a last name, along with her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
She corrected Mindy Kaling on her new show, With Love, Meghan, when Kaling called the duchess by her maiden name. “It’s so funny you keep saying Markle,” Meghan said, via Us Weekly. “You know it’s Sussex now. You have kids and you go, I share my name with my children. I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go, this is our family name. Our little family now.”
Meghan gave People a similar update in a new interview published earlier today. She and Harry received their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles from the late Queen Elizabeth II when they got married. Their children’s official titles, per the royal family’s site, are Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
Meghan explained, “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children. I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H, and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”
The Sussex name “is part of our love story,” she stated.
With Love, Meghan premieres tonight at midnight. Netflix credits Meghan as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, on the project.
On January 2, Meghan introduced the series, writing on Instagram, “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it.”
