Meghan Markle is mourning the death of her rescue pup, Guy.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, posted an emotional tribute to her late beagle on Instagram on Tuesday, looking back at the decade they spent together.

"In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada," she wrote. "He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up… and fell in love. They referred to him as 'the little guy' because he was so small and frail, so I named him 'Guy.' And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for."

The beagle was present for multiple milestones in Markle's life, including her marriage to Prince Harry and the births of their children, Archie and Lilibet. "He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged (and then married), when I became a mom," she wrote. "He was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort."

She also revealed that Guy overcame incredible health struggles after he suffered a "terrible accident" before her move to the U.K. that forced him to be hospitalized for several months while he underwent multiple surgeries.

"Doctors said [Guy] would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it," she recalled. "H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our vets now, and my friends and community. Thank you for loving him so."

The Suits alum added that fans will get to witness just how special Guy was in his posthumous appearances on her upcoming Netflix lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan. "Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you'll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss," she wrote. "I think you may fall a little bit in love too."

She also said it wasn't easy for her to say goodbye. "I have cried too many tears to count — the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they're not there," she wrote. "But they are. And that's okay too."

Alongside her letter, Markle posted a video that featured a collage of pictures and snippets from Guy's life that show the dog relaxing in bed, running around the house with the family's other dog, Pula, and sitting patiently beside Markle while she cooked.

Markle concluded, "Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you'll l never know." In her caption she also included the hashtag #adoptdontshop.

With Love, Meghan premieres Jan. 15 on Netflix.
