Megan Gale's breastfeeding plea

Australian model Megan Gale says women should be allowed to breastfeed their young children in and out of the workplace, without it being frowned upon.

The 41-year-old star, whose Madame Tussauds wax statue was unveiled on Wednesday morning, tells Be: "You see what we’re exposed to [sometimes in the media] in terms of nudity and sexuality and that’s allowed but a woman doing something so natural and beautiful as breastfeeding is sometimes frowned upon and I’ve never really understood that".

"So I think across the board it should be accepted, whether it’s in the workplace or not," she adds.

The pregnant model is expecting a second child with partner Shaun Hampson, the baby news coming after she suffered a miscarriage in May last year.

Megan bravely opened up about the miscarriage in January, and now tells Be it was important for her to speak about the topic because it is "very, very common".

"It’s not necessarily something you share at work immediately if at all or with your friends or with family and then there’s the flip side where also wanting to communicate a message," she explains.

As to what the message could be, Megan says: "There's so many issues that can go wrong with conception and then pregnancy. Maybe it’s not perhaps the best thing to query a woman or a couple on their conception plans or their pregnancy details, because of what can happen and because you don’t know what someone’s going through.

"I used an example of myself where I’d been through my miscarriage and then people were going, 'When are you going to have another baby?' and it was just a really hard one to navigate around and it just made me think "Oh my god, there’s so many women who are going through this'," she adds.

"About 10 days out from my eight week scan, I just felt in my bones something wasn't right," she told InStyle magazine in January.

"I went into the scan and the obstetrician moved the ultrasound around my belly. At one point he just stopped and said he was sorry but the baby was gone."

Megan, who shares three-year-old son River with AFL player partner Shaun Hampson, went on to describe the situation as her "most challenging time", and said despite usually being able to "suck it up", it was was made more difficult by the fact she had to fly to Italy straight away for work commitments.
