On Tuesday, Feb. 25, the fast food chain revealed how it's planning to mark the Golden Anniversary of the breakfast favorite, announcing that fans would be able to get their hands on an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg breakfast sandwich for just $1 on Sunday, March 2 (aka. National Egg McMuffin Day!)
The offer is available only on the McDonald's app, the company stated in a news release, adding that they were also giving people the chance to get two sandwiches for the price of one when ordering a Sausage McMuffin with Egg for McDelivery via the app from March 3 through March 30.
"In 1975, a breakfast revolution began with the nationwide debut of the Egg McMuffin at McDonald's," the chain said of the iconic breakfast item, per the release.
"Whether it was the melty cheese, the freshly cracked egg (now sourced 100% cage-free in the U.S.), or the perfectly toasted and buttered English Muffin... this simple, yet delicious sandwich struck a chord with America and inspired a whole new way to enjoy the most important meal of the day," it added.
"50 years later, it’s still the GOAT," the eatery insisted.

McDonald's National Egg McMuffin Day posterThe Egg McMuffin "began as the powerful vision of one franchisee in Santa Barbara, California," the chain stated, adding that Herb Peterson presented the idea to the company's founder, Ray Kroc. The sandwich, which was invented by the advertising executive in 1971, was created to allow people to enjoy a dish like Eggs Benedict "in the palm of your hand."
“When I watched my father introduce this idea to Ray Kroc, we could not have anticipated it would become the foundation for the renowned McDonald’s breakfast menu,” Peterson’s son and McDonald’s owner/operator, David Peterson, said in the release. “It’s been remarkable to see people embrace this innovation over the last five decades, and now we get to share that heritage with a new generation of breakfast fans.”
